I wanted to share with you exactly why I decided to launch Groundwork Project. The 2020 cycle had a lot to do with it. Last year painted a crystal-clear picture for me of where Democratic time, attention, and dollars need to be focused: Year-round community organizing.
However, what I’ve seen and lived here in Massachusetts may have inspired me most of all. Massachusetts is about as solidly blue as it gets. We have an all-Democratic House delegation, two progressive Senators, and a state legislature where the GOP barely has a toe-hold.
But within (and despite) that Democratic infrastructure, Massachusetts is plagued by striking inequities in political power, as well as inequities in education, health care, housing and economic justice. The concentration of political representation in the hands of the white, well-educated, wealthy, and well-connected directly impacts what our public policy prioritizes -- and what it ignores.
If we want to build a Democratic Party that is as representative, inclusive, and equitable as its own talking points, then we need to start prioritizing community organizing, to engage and empower more broadly and deeply than ever before. In deep-blue Massachusetts and dark-red Wyoming, alike.
Those close to me know I firmly believe that you cannot win a fight you don’t show up for. So Groundwork Project is going to show up. In places Democrats don’t. For people that politicians forget. With the organizers and activists shouldering the legwork that the rest of our party depends on, too often on their own. We’re going to invest, amplify, and support however they need.

P.S. In case you missed it, by becoming a Founding Donor of Groundwork Project, you will be the first to hear about our virtual launch events and get updates in the coming weeks. You will also be on the ground floor as we fight for a wholesale redirection of Democratic dollars, time, energy, and resources, towards grassroots groups doing essential community organizing with little spotlight or support. Donate now to activate your Founding Donor status: [link removed] [[link removed]]
Groundwork Project was founded by Joe Kennedy III to support community organizers, advocates, and activists nationwide who are working year-round to build a just, free, and equitable future for all. For decades, the Democratic Party has under-resourced, under-valued, and under-recognized the importance of local political infrastructure and year-round grassroots organizing. This needs to change.
We're directing resources, attention, and support to the local advocates and state-based organizations doing the deep, long-term organizing that Democrats need to build a more diverse party, expand its base, win elections, and deliver progressive policy reforms. Contribute now. [[link removed]]
