John,
We are just one day away from our end-of-month fundraising deadline and as you know, at Democracy for America we work to elect leaders that fight for the interests of people, not corporations.
That means, our funding relies 100% on you and the rest of our powerful grassroots members to deliver the resources we need to win. Please contribute $21 for 2021 right now and help us hit our critical end of the month goal.
The last few days have shown precisely why that matters. We saw corporate talking heads all over the media look down on people that used Reddit to discuss stocks like Gamestop. Ridiculing THEM for doing what is basically the exact same thing THEY do.
Some brokerage firms, like the now clearly misnamed “Robinhood” trading app, even prevented their users from buying more shares of Gamestop, because it was costing Wall Street hedge funds too much money.
This isn’t new. Regulators have allowed hedge fund billionaires to game the system in their favor at the expense of everyone else for years. Finally, thanks to real people on Reddit, this kind of market manipulation is being exposed on a grand scale.
There was a time when Wall Street always won. That time is over thanks to critical progressive leaders, like Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Katie Porter, who take on Wall Street and hold them accountable.
But let’s be clear, Wall Street doesn’t back down. They’re coming after progressive heroes, and they are desperate to stop us from electing even more. We’ve beat them before and we’ll beat them again, but only because you’ve always had our back.
You’ve made victory possible and now, we need you to do it again. Make a contribution to DFA now before our end-of-month deadline to fund our work to elect candidates that will regulate Wall Street.

Look, you don’t have to get too deep in the world of finance to know that what took place this week is the direct result of the maleficence of Wall Street tycoons, not working people collectively buying a few shares of GameStop and AMC.
Here’s a simple way to understand what happened:
- Wall Street hedge funds expected Game Stop, a brick and mortar retailer struggling in the pandemic, to fail. So they bet against it.
- Only unlike regular people, hedge funds were able to leverage more than 10 times the value, amounting to 140% of Game Stop’s total market capitalization, and put billions of dollars on the line.
- When regular people unexpectedly invested in the stock and sent the price soaring, hedge funds that bet Game Stop would fail were caught holding the bill and took billions of dollars in losses.
- In reaction, trading firms and apps used by regular investors protected Wall Street hedge funds by stopping investors from buying more Game Stop stock.
Okay, get all that? Here’s the thing… market manipulation isn’t legal and it’s hard to imagine how to describe what happened any other way. That’s why progressive Members of Congress immediately called for an investigation into what laws were broken, who must be held accountable, and what regulations need to be changed to keep it from happening again.
DFA is not funded by billionaires hedge funds or Wall Street; we depend on you.
With your support, we can continue to elect progressive fighters like Elizabeth Warren, Katie Porter, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; leaders that take on Wall Street and win. But building multiple winning campaigns in the fight against candidates funded by Wall Street takes a ton of resources. Please contribute what you can now and give us the resources to fight back and win.

While we proudly rely on grassroots donors to fuel our mission, Republicans and Wall Street Democrats have no problem taking millions of dollars from hedge fund billionaires to fund their campaigns.
We will need unprecedented levels of grassroots power -- people, time, and money -- to combat the money they are already raising.
With numerous local, state, and federal campaigns taking place in the next few months, we’re laying the foundation for victory right now. We can’t wait for next year.
That’s why your contribution is so important today because, with your support, we will beat Wall Street candidates in Congress and on Election Day.
Thank you for everything you’re doing to move America forward.
