Dear John,
Just at the moment when working-class news and analysis is urgently needed, the pandemic economic crisis has hit People’s World – and hit it hard.
With a loss of half its revenue, People’s World has had to temporarily lay off more than half of its staff.
Nevertheless, People’s World’s community of supporters – including its writers, editors, volunteers and readers - are determined to keep publishing – and even expanding beyond the 3 million readers we reached last year. This isn't a crisis yet but it will be unless we take action. We've set ourselves a short-term goal of raising $50,000. So far we've brought in $13,000.
The remaineder can't be reached without your help. YOU as a dedicated supporter have a critical role to play.
Volunteer now for next week’s People’s World Emergency phone bank.
Tuesday, Feb 2, Wednesday Feb. 3 or Thursday, Feb. 4,
4:00 to 8:00 pm EST
Saturday, February 5, 10:00 Eastern, 10:00 Central and 10:00 Pacific
Volunteers from across the country will be calling readers and supporters to alert them and invite their contributions.
Phone bank volunteers will have access to the easy-to-use CallFire automated dialer system.
All you need is:
1. Cell phone
2. Computer
3. Internet access
4. A few hours of your time
This Emergency Phone Bank is the kickoff of a Fund Drive that was launched last weekend. Within hours of being launched, that Drive received $10,000 in pledges.
Readers are eager to help. They know that the weeks and months ahead are crucial for setting the tone for a class struggle people's agenda. They know that People's World plays a unique role in this upsurge.

P.S. If this is your first time phone banking for People’s World, you will quickly discover that this is a great way to reach readers and supporters like yourself who are eager to be in touch. It’s a great way to build social solidarity, even at a time when we must be physically distant.
