Dear John,

I am thrilled to be serving alongside my newly elected colleague, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, and the Democratic senate majority that his successful campaign helped us secure. In a minute, I'm going to ask you to split a contribution between his campaign and ours, but first I hope you'll let me tell you why it's so important:

Mark Kelly has been a leading voice in the fight against gun violence ever since his wife, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, was gunned down in a supermarket parking lot nine years ago. Thankfully, Gabby survived, but six of her constituents did not, including 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green.

In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, Congresswoman Giffords and Mark committed themselves to ending the gun violence pandemic. Thanks to their advocacy, the House passed multiple gun safety bills, but former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked the vote on these critical pieces of legislation.

That's one of the many reasons why Mark decided to run in 2020: to flip the Senate blue so McConnell couldn't block any more gun violence prevention bills from becoming law.

Mark served his country in the Navy, at NASA, as a gun rights activist, and now, I'm thrilled that Mark Kelly is serving his country once again in the U.S. Senate. He is already hard at work in the Senate and ready to make progress on critical issues, including gun safety reform.

But here's the thing: because Senator Mark Kelly won his seat in a special election, he's already up for re-election in Arizona, a crucial swing-state, next year. If he doesn't win, not only will we lose his voice in the Senate -- we'll lose our new Senate majority.

We have too much to get done to lose our Senate majority so soon, John. While Senator Kelly is busy working for all of us, will you split a contribution between his team and ours to protect our new Democratic Senate majority?

Thank you,

Chris
