Gun violence forever changed Jim and Sarah Brady’s lives. As survivors, they channeled their pain and grief into action and guided our organization to pass laws that would prevent what their family — and countless others — experienced. To this day, we uphold Jim and Sarah's legacy of leading from personal experience, as many of our Brady leaders are survivors of gun violence.
So when we saw the disturbing video of freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene verbally abusing David Hogg, a Parkland survivor, we took it personally. We stand with all gun violence victims and survivors and demand the immediate resignation of Rep. Greene.
Lawmakers who attack anyone — especially people who have survived tragedies like mass shootings — are not fit to hold public office. And to make matters worse, this isn’t the first time Rep. Greene has targeted gun violence survivors: She’s used her platform to push vicious, baseless conspiracy theories that the Parkland, Sandy Hook, and Las Vegas mass shootings were staged.

Brady Helps Advance Gun Violence Prevention Bills in Virginia!
Last week, we told you about a few of our priority bills in Virginia, including legislation that would help close the deadly "Charleston loophole" by extending the time law enforcement has to complete a background check (HB 2128) and ban undetectable "ghost guns" (HB 2276). We're proud to announce that these two common-sense bills passed the Virginia House of Delegates! Providing expert testimony for Brady was Senior Manager of State Policy Kelsey Rogers.
We thank the Virginia House of Delegates for acting swiftly and call on the Virginia Senate to do the same. We are prepared to build off our historic progress in 2020 and show how Virginia legislators and advocates continue to make the Commonwealth safer for everyone!

Yet again, this week we learned about grave concerns of threats of armed domestic violence — this time from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
This stark notice from DHS comes on the heels of the FBI's recent warning of armed protests at state capitols throughout the country.
It is increasingly clear that lawmakers need to act immediately to guard against these threats. That’s why Brady is urgently calling on state elected officials across the country to ban firearms at state capitols, legislative buildings, and all polling places. The DHS warns of threats throughout April, and legislators must pass laws to protect their constituents and our democracy now and long into the future. Please, tell your state legislators that we cannot risk any further violence with firearms.

With this honor, we are proud that Pastor Dixon now joins the likes of civil rights icons like Rep. John Lewis and Sen. Ted Kennedy for his contributions to civil rights and commitment to racial justice and equity. His leadership in the fight for a safer America has been nothing short of inspirational. Following years of drug and alcohol addictions and time spent in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Pastor Dixon devoted his life to advocacy, including the movement to end gun violence.
Once joining Brady, he was on the frontlines following the massacre at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, after a white supremacist shot and killed nine church members during a bible study. In 2020, Pastor Dixon worked with youth advocates to mobilize for change following the senseless murders of Black Americans.
