HOUSE COMMITTEE MOVES ABORTION BILL FOWARD
This afternoon members of the House Judiciary Committee cleared the abortion bill HB 7. The vote went along party lines. The legislation would repeal a 1969 law that criminalizes abortions in New Mexico. The bill would allow for late-term abortions and offers no true protections for women and health care workers. This bill is wrong for New Mexico. The legislation heads to the full floor of the House next week.
CALL TO ACTION: contact House leadership and tell them to stop this bill from passing!

ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL CLEARS HOUSE COMMITTEE
Today the House Health & Human Services Committee in a party line vote of 7-4 passed HB 47 ([link removed]) , the Assisted Suicide bill. It would allow terminally ill patients the right to administer a life-ending drug to themselves or request to be prescribed one, typically after a 48-hour waiting period. This bill is one of the most radical assisted suicide bills in the nation. This legislation would allow immediate assisted suicides and even stipulates that if a health professional doesn't want to participate, he must refer the person to another doctor or professional. This legislation must be stopped. The measure now heads to the House Judiciary Committee. ([link removed])

SENATE COMMITTEE OKAYS COMMUNITY SOLAR PROPOSAL
The Senate Conservation Committee has cleared a bill that would allow community solar programs to be established in New Mexico. The legislation passed on a party-line vote. Democrats claim it would complement state mandates for generating more electricity from renewable resources. There are too many concerns, however, about the high costs of this proposal. In addition, this bill could financially hurt communities and families because it's unclear what the cost to them would be.
