Today marks two years since Trump announced the Remain in Mexico program, which forces vulnerable children and families to wait in Mexico for a chance at finding safety and justice in the U.S., often for months and years without proper shelter, water, food or medical care.

President Biden took an important first step towards rolling back this cruel policy, ending new enrollments into the Remain in Mexico program, but that is only a first step.

More than 67,000 children and families enrolled in Remain in Mexico are still in limbo, waiting to see their day in court. There is an urgent need for Congress to support a safe and just process for welcoming these families into the U.S.

It is legal to seek safety for yourself and your family. When people cross borders, their human rights come with them. Remain in Mexico was an attack not only on our American values, but also on our laws.
