SACRAMENTO—Rob Lapsley, president of the California Business Roundtable, issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom signing SB 91, which will extend the state’s eviction moratorium and creates a $2.6 billion rent relief program for landlords:

“While well-intentioned and critically important, SB 91 needs strong policy clarifications to prevent significant waste, fraud and abuse. We are calling on the Legislature to immediately establish an oversight committee to ensure the multi-billion-dollar rent relief program is administered equitably and effectively, and that sufficient fraud protections are in place ahead of time. Tenants and landlords cannot afford for this program to fail. We are ready to get to work to make this program a success.”
