As progress stalls in an important statewide gas planning proceeding before the Public Service Commission (PSC), New York community members and elected officials will come together to demand no more delays and that the state finally release a plan for a managed, equitable, and affordable transition from fracked gas to renewable heating and renewable energy.

Renewable energy advocates say it seems as though we are living in the movie "Groundhog Day." The proceeding was announced in March 2020, and the plan was supposed to be released in August 2020. However, the PSC has granted staff seven extensions for the plan. New Yorkers keep hoping for progress in the our transition off gas, but every morning we wake up to the same lack of progress. Join us February 2 at noon to tell the PSC and Governor Cuomo to finally release the plan for public comment, as promised, on February 12.

While the PSC delays, utilities are moving full speed ahead, building more fracked gas pipelines and charging their customers to do it. Utilities are putting our communities in danger both from fracked gas infrastructure and from exacerbated climate change. We need our state regulators to step up!

The Renewable Heat Now campaign*, along with 190 elected officials and 130 organizations from across the state, reached out to the PSC several times in 2020, outlining what needs to be in the plan in order to move NY off fracked gas in an orderly and equitable way and to ensure every household has access to affordable renewable heat and renewable energy.

We can no longer afford to endure delay after delay, like an endless "Groundhog Day" movie loop, because we are losing time to enact meaningful, equitable climate policy.

Come to the Virtual Rally and Press Conference Tuesday, Feb 2, at 12pm by registering at bit.ly/getoffgas. Share the event on Facebook. Bring a sign to the virtual event to show Governor Cuomo and the PSC we can’t wait for essential climate action any longer!
