The Green New Deal revolutionized the debate on climate action by putting environmental justice for frontline communities at the heart of any solutions.

Our movement led President Biden to adopt this key piece of the framework for his own plan. That is great, but as of now, the federal government does not have an environmental justice screening tool to identify these disadvantaged communities. Fixing that is necessary if we are to get the bold action this moment demands.

That's why I am partnering with Rep. Cori Bush and Sen. Tammy Duckworth to introduce the Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021, which would directly address this problem and make it possible to center justice for frontline communities in our climate solutions.

Now we need your help to make this idea a reality. Can you add your name to ours to become a citizen co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021?

There has never been a more important or urgent moment for this kind of legislation.

President Biden has listened to our climate movement and is acting with the urgency that this crisis demands. But in order for us to start a clean energy revolution in our country and create millions of good, union jobs -- all while centering justice for frontline communities, we need to be able to visualize and understand the system with data.

We have seen how the coronavirus is inextricably tied to the record-high levels of pollution in neighborhoods like Chelsea, Massachusetts, where poor air quality has led to serious respiratory diseases and some of the Commonwealth's highest rates of COVID-19.

Black and Brown families continue to breathe dirtier air and drink more polluted water. We know that in order to solve these systemic problems, we need systemic solutions.

That is where my announcement yesterday with Rep. Cori Bush comes in. I have been looking forward to partnering with her for months. Her leadership is long overdue in this fight as we work to shake up the status quo in DC. But we both know that our progress is only possible if we have a movement fighting alongside us outside of Congress.

Please add your name to join our fight and become a citizen co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021. We cannot solve problems if we do not know the parameters, and we cannot measure changes without data.

Right now is the moment to pass strong environmental justice legislation to protect frontline communities and reverse decades of environmental racism. And then, we need to pass a Green New Deal to transform our economy and our democracy, with the ideals of justice, equity, and science entrenched in every policy we create.

Thank you in advance for adding your voice to ours.
