Read: No Comemos Baterías: Solidarity Science Against False Climate Change Solutions

In our relaunch issue, CIEJ (the Center for Interdisciplinary Environmental Justice) writes about the toll taken by extractive mining on the Indigenous peoples of the Altiplano region in the Andes. They argue that "It is dangerous to reduce climate change to an 'emissions' issue and to leave intact the extractive and oppressive processes that caused climate change in the first place." CIEJ lays out a framework for scientific praxis in solidarity with Indigenous communities, and issues a call to action for working scientists to resist colonialist and extractive practices.

CIEJ has provided a translation of their article, and Science for the People is proud to present the Spanish version: ¡No comemos baterías! Ciencia solidaria en contra de las falsas soluciones del cambio climático.

But what does resistance to these oppressive forces look like? How can we map political spaces of resistance? We are calling for people interested in place, geography, or geographic information systems (GIS) who want to help build up Science for the People’s mapping team.
