Mariana is an immigrant, an asylum seeker, a mother. She was taken into ICE custody nearly two years ago and separated from her children.
Even after President Biden halted many deportations, despite the grave threat to her life if she was returned to her home country, and even though doctors called for Mariana’s release because of a serious medical condition, ICE refused to release her from custody.
In response, we organized and mobilized to stop Mariana’s deportation. Yesterday, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and I secured a commitment from Acting ICE Director Tae Johnson to issue a stay and halt Mariana’s deportation for 90 days.
This is a huge victory, but we will not stop fighting until Mariana is freed from custody and reunited with her babies. Then, we’ll continue organizing and mobilizing to ensure that no more immigrants seeking safety and freedom in our country are ripped away from their families and imprisoned.
We’re not in this fight alone. United We Dream is working each and every day to create an immigration system that centers humanity and human rights. Will you make a $3 contribution to United We Dream right now to help reform our immigration system?

We must work together to rebuild a more humane and competent immigration system. And we must remember that the challenges facing immigrant communities go beyond immigration status; we must be committed to making healthcare, education, and public institutions more inclusive and accessible to immigrant communities, to create greater opportunity for all.
Make a contribution to United We Dream right now and together we can push for a more just and equitable immigration system.
In solidarity,
