The very first bill I ever voted for in Congress was the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Seriously — then-Vice President Joe Biden swore me into the Senate, I immediately walked straight to the floor, and voted yes for pay equality.
Twelve years later, we are still fighting for equal pay. It is unconscionable that there is still a gender wage gap in this country. Everyone — regardless of gender — deserves equal pay for equal work.
That’s why I’m so proud to introduce the Paycheck Fairness Act this year under a Democratic majority in Washington. This historic legislation will seek to eliminate gender pay gap and rebuke pay discrimination.
