Governor DeWine Appoints Lyons to Butler County Court

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced the appointment of Robert H. Lyons to the Butler County Court.

Lyons, ofWest Chester, will assume office on February 8, 2021, and will be replacing Judge Daniel E. Haughey, who was elected to the Butler County Court of Common Pleas in November. Lyons' term as the Butler County Area III Court Judge will expire on December 31, 2022.

Lyons became an acting Butler County Court judge in 1993, until taking the bench as the Butler County Area I Court Judge in 1999. Additionally, he has served concurrently as an Administrative Judge and Presiding Judge in the Butler County Court for the last 12 years.

Lyons has been a private practicing attorney since 1980 after earning a Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky University's (NKU) Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He also studied abroad at England's University of Exeter through Marshall Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary (Virginia). Lyons earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was an adjunct instructor in business law and criminal defense from 2000 to 2008. He is presently an adjunct professor of law office management at NKU, Chase College of Law.

Lyons is the current president of the Butler County Association of Municipal & County Court Judges. He has twice served as the chairman of the Ohio State Bar Association's Traffic Law Committee. Lyonsis a member of various judicial and law-related associations, including the Butler County Bar Association, the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Judges Association, among others. Lyons has coached high school wrestling since the mid-1980s.

Lyons' peers have recognized him as "Top DUI Lawyer for Greater Cincinnati" in "Cincy Business Magazine"since 2011, and as a "Super Lawyer" for DUI offense.
