Dear John,

It’s certainly been a busy nine days! A lot of progress to keep up with!

The Biden-Harris administration has wasted no time, taking strong action to:

  • Rejoin the Paris climate agreement.

  • Establish an Office of Domestic Climate Policy and a Presidential Envoy for Climate to advance climate progress at home and abroad.

  • Prioritize environmental justice as a cornerstone of our national economic and environmental agendas.

  • Reestablish the role of scientific integrity at the heart of policy-making.

  • Revoke the Keystone XL Pipeline permit, pause new oil and gas activity on federal land and stop oil development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

And more.

Not only that, the new administration’s nominations for key cabinet positions are leaders who have pledged to make climate and environmental progress throughout the federal government.

And in the courts, we recently won two landmark cases staying the Trump administration’s efforts to gut the Clean Power Plan and undercut the role of science at the Environmental Protection Agency.

We even just saw General Motors pledge to eliminate emissions from all new passenger vehicles by 2035 and to be carbon neutral in its global products and operations by 2040 — a major announcement that will cut pollution and accelerate our transition to electric vehicles.

These are all inspiring steps — clear signs that we’re getting back to work to slash climate pollution, unleash clean energy innovation and make our communities healthier and safer for all.

And as part of the growing EDF community of more than 2.5 million members and activists, you are an important part of this momentum. I can’t thank you enough for your commitment and support.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. The climate crisis is the most serious environmental threat humanity has ever faced. We don’t have a moment to lose. We must move forward at the pace and scope that climate science demands.

But if the last nine days tell us anything, it’s that this is a new day. We’re rapidly shifting from playing defense against reckless Trump administration policies to driving the win-win solutions we need to protect our people and the planet.

Today, we celebrate the progress we’re making. But we look forward to tomorrow to keep the momentum going. And we thank you for being an essential part of our movement for progress.

Gratefully yours,
