January 29, 2021

Greetings,

As your Representative in Washington, I wanted to reach out to provide you with an update from January 2021.

Following the events that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, we mourn the loss of three U.S. Capitol Police members, Officer Brian Sicknick, Officer Howard Liebengood, and Officer Jeffrey Smith. Our hearts and prayers go out to their families.

We also mourn the loss of Rosanne Boylan, a Georgia native, who passed away following the events and share our condolences with the families of three other individuals who passed away due to this incident.

A Historic Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

On January 20, 2021, I witnessed a historic swearing in ceremony for the inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden and Vice President Kamala D. Harris. Attending the event in Washington, I was proud to watch as the new administration was sworn-in, and I look forward to getting to work with our new leadership.

Additionally, I would like to congratulate Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock and Senator Jon Ossoff for their historic swearings-in as Georgia's first black Senator and first Jewish Senator, respectively. I look forward to working closely with both of them.

I was also incredibly proud of one of GA-13's own, City of South Fulton Fire Captain Andrea Hall, who led the Pledge of Allegiance at the inauguration.

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Henry "Hank" Aaron

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of an American icon, baseball's homerun king, and my brother-in-law and dear friend--Henry "Hank" Aaron.

“All of our hearts are broken at the passing of our loved one, Hank Aaron. My wife, Alfredia, Hank Aaron’s sister, and I, and our entire family are deeply saddened at his passing. But we know that the Lord said to all of us, “let your light shine so that the whole world may see your great works.” And Hank Aaron did just that. And not just the 755 home run record for Major League Baseball, but also as a father, a son, a brother, a husband, a great friend to so many people, and a shining light for Atlanta, our nation, and the world. Our entire family wants to thank all of those who have reached out and have given comfort to us.”

Along with Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, Representative Nikema Williams (GA-05), and members of the Georgia and Alabama Congressional delegations, I led a resolution honoring the life and legacy of the man widely known as 'Hammerin' Hank'.
