John,
My first four weeks in Congress have been quite the journey.
I swore an oath to the Constitution as Representative of IL-03, and joined my House colleagues to certifiy the electoral college results after a white supremacist attack on the Capitol.
I voted to impeach Donald Trump, and witnessed the joy of a new day in our nation with President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
And I got a brand new desk. That might not seem like the most important update, but as someone who has sat at the same desk for decades -- a double desk built by my grandfather, a union carpenter, for my sister and I to study so that we might be among the first in our family to go to college -- I know the power of a good desk and some elbow grease.
The office might be new, but my mission is the same as it’s always been -- I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work on behalf of everyday Americans. Will you stand with me in the fight for progressive change and chip in $3 or more to help me reach my first fundraising goal of the year?
Workers and families are hurting right now -- and our government has a responsibility to step up with bold legislation to address their needs and rebuild an economy that works for everyone.
That’s why I’ve co-sponsored legislation to:
- get big money out of politics
- raise the minimum wage to $15
- enact Medicare for All
- protect the rights of LGBTQ Americans
- invest $100 billion in our schools
- ensure paid family and medical leave
- expand voting rights
- grant statehood to the District of Columbia
- expand workers’ collective bargaining rights
I’m here to fight for YOU -- which is why I refuse to take money from corporate PACs and lobbyists. But it does put me at a fundraising disadvantage -- will you chip in to our people-powered campaign to make sure we can reach this critical end-of-month goal?
Every dollar makes a difference.
Thanks so much for your support,
Marie Newman
