John,
About two weeks ago, we reached out to you on behalf of Oscar Grant’s family. Together, we flooded Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley with calls demanding she reopen the case in order to hold BART police officer Anthony Pirone accountable for his role in the murder of Oscar Grant.
Thanks in large part to your efforts, we have gained public attention. The world is watching and many of those in elected office are getting on board. Congresswoman Barbara Lee has called on DA O’Malley to reopen the case.
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors (those responsible for the DA’s Budget), just passed a resolution calling on DA O’Malley to charge Anthony Pirone with felony murder.
Still, we know that just as with the prosecution of BART officer Johannes Mehserle in 2009, the most important voice is the voice of the people.
These are critical steps in this case for justice for Oscar Grant, and we have to keep up the pressure.
That’s why today, January 29th, from 12-1pm PT/3-4pm ET we’re launching a Twitter storm demanding that the DA reopen Oscar Grant’s case and hold Anthony Pirone accountable.
Justice is in our hands, John. Join our Twitter storm right now and demand the Alameda County DA reopen the case and charge Pirone so that we can get some justice in Oscar Grant’s name >>
It’s been 12 years since Oscar Grant was senselessly killed by BART police at Fruitvale Station. It was thousands of people in the streets that got the first officer -- Johannes Mehserle -- fired, charged, and prosecuted. But the second officer still walks free. While former officer Anthony Pirone was fired, he has yet to face accountability for his role in Oscar Grant’s death.
Anthony Pirone has blood on his hands. His role in Oscar’s murder must not get overlooked and swept under the rug. Join the storm to demand that DA O’Malley reopen the case. Justice in the name of Oscar Grant!
In love and solidarity,
