Don’t know about you but it’s been a hectic week. I wanted to bump this email I sent around last night. Did you see it?
TL;DR -- Sunday is our first budget deadline of the election year and we need to raise another $12,000 to be in the strongest spot possible. My team also reminded me that we are officially 85 days out from the start of voting in Virginia.
This campaign isn’t about me, my opponents, or the pundits. It’s about you, your family, and your neighbors. I’ll only succeed, and I only want to succeed, with you by my side. And I hope to earn your trust and support over the next few months.
I wanted to take a moment to take a step back and remind you why I’m running for Virginia Governor. The status quo has left us with a deeply broken system where too many Virginians are working too hard for too little. We know the effects of the pandemic will last long after we get it under control. Virginians need support now more than ever before.
I’m running for them. For you. For your family and friends. I’m running for my twin boys, Alex and Xander.
I’ve dedicated my life to public service and have never shied away from a challenge. I’m not going to lie to you: we have a tough road ahead. But no one said running to be the first Black woman governor in our nation’s history was going to be easy.
When I ran for Delegate four years ago, a lot of people told me that I wasn't going to win. They said I was a joke, and that I was wasting my time. The statistics were against me. But I defied the odds and I won.
This time polling shows that our biggest hurdle is my name recognition. The good news is when voters hear my story, and about why I’m running, I win.
This is why Sunday’s end-of-month budget deadline has extra importance. Connecting with voters and building trust takes time, especially with the challenge of campaigning during a pandemic.
I’m confident I’m the right person for this job and I’m ready to put in the work. But I will only succeed with you by my side. Thank you for your support, trust, and dedication.
Let’s go win!

Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her time as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities.
She has a career of public service and it started long before 2017. As a public defender, Jennifer helped give a voice to the often voiceless — children, people suffering from addiction, those experiencing homelessness, those with mental illness, and the poor.
Now she’s running to be the first woman elected Governor of Virginia and serve as the first Black woman to be governor nationwide.
