I have good news:
This week, President Biden issued an executive order promising to conserve 30% of the nation’s land and water by 2030. He also ordered a pause on fossil fuel leasing on federal lands.
Veterans and military families have long championed and advocated for our public lands. We understand the importance they serve as spots of national healing and solemnity and we understand our responsibility to protect them for future generations.
So I salute President Biden for his bold action protecting our public lands and our environment. If you agree and want to voice your support for his executive action, add your name here:
Echoing President Biden’s actions, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reaffirmed the U.S. military’s belief that climate change is a national security threat. After four years of climate denial and disastrous policies, this is a huge step forward for our military and for all of us.
It is great to finally have leaders in the White House and Defense Department who want to protect our environment, and who see our nation’s public lands and waterways as the treasures that they are rather than spots on the map for exploitation.
This is a new day.
All my best,
Major General (Ret.) Paul Eaton
