Benjamin Watson: "The March for Life is Important Every Year Because Lives are at Stake"

By: Brittany Raymer

Today the March for Life is going virtual, with only a small number of pro-life leaders attending a physical march in Washington, D.C. One of the speakers this year is husband, father, passionate pro-life activist and retired NFL player Benjamin Watson, who will be speaking with his wife Kirsten.

Watson and Chelsey Youman, who serves in the policy arm of the pro-life group Human Coalition, recently sat down with The Daily Citizen where they shared about the future of the pro-life movement, the importance of the March for Life and how pro-life Americans can get involved in promoting the pro-life cause.

“The March for Life is important every year,” Watson shared when asked why the march is more important than ever. “We talk a lot about this issue, and I think every day is important because lives are at stake. I don’t think the lives this year are any less important than the lives last year or the year before. We do have an opportunity this year, in a time where it’s going to look different than it has in the past. We still have the time to come together in spirit to advocate for life. And I think that 60 million lives since Roe v. Wade, that urgency doesn’t change. Whether it was 5 years ago or today.”

A Disturbing Rise in Student Suicides in Nevada Prompts Decision to Begin Opening Schools
A Disturbing Rise in Student Suicides in Nevada Prompts Decision to Begin Opening Schools
By: Bruce Hausknecht

Clark County, Nevada, home to Las Vegas and the nation’s 5th largest school district, has announced it will begin re-opening some of its schools soon. The reason? The school district has experienced 18 student suicides since last March, when the schools closed due to COVID-19.

The district’s experience for the entire year 2019 involved only nine suicides, so the increase this year has alarmed district administration officials.

“When we started to see the uptick in children taking their lives, we knew it wasn’t just the COVID numbers we need to look at anymore,” said Jesus Jara, the Clark County superintendent, in an article in The New York Times. “We have to find a way to put our hands on our kids, to see them, to look at them. They’ve got to start seeing some movement, some hope.”

Twitter Locks Out ‘The Daily Citizen’ Over Factual Reporting on Biden’s Transgender Nominee
Twitter Locks Out ‘The Daily Citizen’ Over Factual Reporting on Biden’s Transgender Nominee

Twitter has locked The Daily Citizen out of its account over an alleged violation of the platform’s rules against “hateful conduct.” The tweet in question links to a story written by The Daily Citizen and includes a brief quotation from the article (which you can read in full here).

The Daily Citizen is not able to access its Twitter account until it deletes the original tweet, even though Twitter has already removed the post and replaced it with a notice stating that the “tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules.”

The linked story from The Daily Citizen was published on January 19 and is titled, “Biden to Nominate Controversial Transgender Doctor for Assistant Health and Human Services Secretary.” Numerous other media outlets similarly reported on the story.

A Politician’s Faith Is Only Publicly Praiseworthy When He’s Liberal
A Politician’s Faith Is Only Publicly Praiseworthy When He’s Liberal

It is certainly interesting how something is either resolutely praised or cursed, based solely on one’s perspective. If you’ve been following any of the elite press’ coverage on President Biden’s faith you know how true that is. We are usually reminded what a dangerous brew faith and politics are. We are told how certain politicians and Presidents should just keep their faith to themselves. Separation of Church and State and all that.

But the elite press is clearly very excited about President Biden’s faith. It is as if they cannot get enough of it.

They celebrate him as “the most religiously observant commander in chief in half a century” as the New York Times put it this weekend. CNN noted that Biden’s “Catholic faith will be on full display” during his time in office and they mean that in a very good way. They approvingly quoted Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) saying, “Joe’s faith isn’t just part of who he is, it’s foundational to who he is.”

California Legislation Would Create ‘Safe Sites’ for Drug Use and Lower Penalties for Some Drug Offenses
California Legislation Would Create ‘Safe Sites’ for Drug Use and Lower Penalties for Some Drug Offenses

California state Senator Scott Wiener introduced Senate Bill 57 which authorizes the City and County of San Francisco, the County of Los Angeles and the City of Oakland to create “hygienic” spaces, “supervised by trained staff where people who use drugs can consume preobtained drugs.”

Wiener also introduced Senate Bill 73, allowing judges to grant probation or suspend sentences for certain drug crimes, ending mandatory prison sentences for those crimes. The lower sentencing standards include crimes such as the sale, possession and transport of opiates or opium derivatives; planting or cultivating peyote; and possession or sale of 14.25 grams or more of heroin or phencyclidine – also known as “angel dust” or PCP.

According to the California Family Council, a Focus on the Family-affiliated organization, Wiener made election promises to “decriminalize all drug use,” end the “War on Drugs,” and put an end to “mass incarceration.” CFC also says the senator has promised to “legalize all psychedelic drugs such as LSD and magic mushrooms.”
