Happy 160th birthday, Kansas! Kansas joined the Union on this day in 1861. From John Brown, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Amelia Earhart to Brown v. Topeka Board of Education , William Allen White, and a progressive history through thick and thin, Kansas has lived up to its motto – Ad astra per aspera , to the stars through difficulties.
