John,
It’s impossible to put into words just how challenging the past year has been for small businesses and local community cornerstones here in Indiana and around the country.
In 2020, we saw an all-time record of job commitments in the state that will have a positive impact on the local economy as well as provide good jobs to hard working Hoosiers in the near future.
Governor Holcomb also took action to provide support to small businesses by instituting the workforce employer grant and a manufacturing credit.
Entrepreneurs and workers have made unimaginable sacrifices in order to stay afloat, and it’s critical that we reward them by supporting their businesses in any way that we can.
Despite all those struggles, we’ve seen incredible stories of hope and generosity thanks to grassroots support networks and charities like the Barstool Fund.
The Barstool Fund has raised over $32 million to help hundreds of businesses from coast to coast keep their doors open –– including three small Hoosier businesses that we want to recognize today!
Check out their stories and watch their reactions when they learn that help is on the way below.
Special Dogs and More — Columbus, IN
The owners of Special Dogs and More are the embodiment of the Hoosier spirit. Alongside serving up mouth-watering hot dogs and burgers, they’ve employed, trained, and invested in workers with special needs for the three years they’ve been in business. Siebert’s Clothing –– Jasper, IN
Siebert’s Clothing store has stood the test of time. Founded in 1922, this family-owned business has withstood the uncertainty of the Great Depression and World War II –– and now, they’re proving their resilience once again in the face of the pandemic. The Rathskeller –– Indianapolis, IN
Those who have experienced the Rathskeller know that it’s much more than just a restaurant –– it’s an Indy institution that tourists and locals have flocked to for decades –– making them more than deserving of this support and recognition. John, Governor Holcomb is inspired by these examples of communities rallying together to support small businesses –– and he’s continuing to lead Indiana to a full, safe reopening of our economy so they can continue serving Hoosiers for years to come.
In the meantime, we’re encouraging Hoosiers to continue supporting small businesses –– and if you’re the owner of a small business looking for more support through the pandemic, we encourage you to utilize all the resources and information available through the Indiana Small Business Development Center.
Thank you, - Holcomb Crew
