Friend,
Donald Trump may be out of the Oval Office, but that doesn't mean our democracy isn't in dire straits. Just look at what happened in the Senate the other day: Only five – five! – Republican senators voted to uphold Donald Trump's second impeachment for inciting domestic terrorism.
Let's leave behind their flawed arguments that officials can't be impeached after having left office (there's plenty of precedent that says otherwise) – these senators were in the Capitol when a mob, incited by Trump, descended violently upon our democracy. They know firsthand the chaos that ensued. Accountability and justice are the only path toward healing: The insurrection resulted in the death of five people, including a Capitol police officer.
Do they honestly believe the former president should be let off, without so much as a slap on the wrist, for inciting an insurrection upon the United States of America? Do they honestly think he is above the law?
Friend, it seems like the Republican Party will continue to do whatever it takes to embolden the habitual offender that is Donald Trump. And we must not stand for it. That's why I need your voice in this – we need to show Congress that the American people won't stand for anything less than protecting our democracy.
I'm hoping 342 members of this team will speak out before 11:59 p.m. tonight, and all it takes is answering the following question:
Do you trust the GOP to do what's right for our democracy?
