Friend —
This week, the Biden administration fulfilled their pledge to halt construction of a border wall on the U.S. southern border.
For the past four years under the Trump administration, border residents, farmers and ranchers had been living in fear of losing private lands, some of which has been passed down for generations.
With negotiations for border wall land now halted, residents and landowners can finally gain peace knowing their land and livelihoods will not be lost to a wasteful, ineffective border wall.
This is a major victory for so many, but the work is just beginning. A range of additional actions must be taken to stop border wall plans still in motion. This includes:
* Directing the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney General to dismiss all ongoing lawsuits and civil proceedings against private and public landowners — and protect them from any attempts to leverage eminent domain by future administrations
* Terminating all contracts involving the acquisition of private land for wall construction on the southwest border
* Removing and repealing the authority of the Department of Homeland Security to bypass legal requirements relating to the construction of new border barriers
We must urge the Biden administration to prioritize the work to remedy the many challenges our communities have faced and continue to face due to the previous administration’s reckless agenda.
I am dedicated to continuing the fight to undo the harmful actions of the Trump administration. We must restore and protect our border lands and residents — and I can’t do it alone.
I’m coming to you directly, friend, to ask for your support in the critical work ahead. Please chip in $10 or more to ensure we have the resources to keep up the fight.
