We have big news, John.
Earlier today, in partnership with Sen. Ed Markey, Cori revealed her first piece of environmental justice legislation.
The Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021 will center racial justice and frontline communities in the fight to end our climate crisis. This is about correcting decades, if not centuries, of injustices that have ingrained environmental racism in our communities:
Environmental justice is racial justice, John.
Communities like St. Louis have suffered the most from environmental racism and violence. Our environment here is one where Black children in St. Louis make roughly 10 times more emergency room visits for asthma each year than white children. Where Black children are 2.4 times more likely than white children to test positive for lead in their blood. Where Black households are disproportionately affected by high energy burdens.
For too long, these issues have been unnoticed and under researched by our government. If we cannot track and map these environmental risk factors, it is impossible for our government to create effective solutions and support our communities.
That’s why it’s urgent we rally together now to support Cori’s bill. Please add your name today to co-sign the Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021.
Let’s do this,
Team Cori
