499.
That's the number of sitting Republican state legislators who enabled and joined the assault on our democracy (according to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee).
These 499 officials, who hold serious political power, helped fuel the attack on the seat of our democracy (and that doesn't even include all the city council members, school board directors and other local leaders who played a part).
Trump has immeasurably poisoned our politics, and even though he's been defeated -- the rot remains. In the halls of power, throughout the nation: white supremacists, insurrectionists, and fascists are still codifying their ignorance and bigotry into law.
And it's up to us to defeat them -- if we don't, the rot will only spread further.
Run for Something's recruiting, training, and supporting diverse, young progressives to defeat these 499 dangerous leaders and the countless more in local office. Want to help? Right now generous donors are matching all donations up to $50,000. Chip in $5 now to have your donation matched and stop the rot.

I wish I could say the 499 count shocked me -- but anyone who's watched the GOP fall in line behind Trump knows this problem is so much bigger than a single president.
After all, these are the same people who pass voter suppression laws, the same people who gerrymander their districts to hold onto power, the same people who want to control women's bodies, the same people who use the justice system to wage war on communities of color.
In short, while we know not all Republican voters are bad, these 499 politicians (and the ones like them) are genuinely terrible people. They've never deserved the privilege of leading, but they do -- and they must be ousted before they can harm our communities or our democracy any further.
The next generation of progressive leaders are ready to clear out the rot, but they can't do it alone. They'll need our help, John. Chip in $5 or whatever you can now (remember, it'll be matched!).
Thanks,
Amanda Litman
