Dear John

Yesterday, Mayor Pete Buttigieg received an overwhelming approval vote in the Senate Commerce Committee -- 21-3 -- in support of his nomination for Transportation Secretary. His nomination will now go to the full Senate, LIKELY TODAY.

If confirmed, Buttigieg would be the first openly gay American Senate-confirmed to lead a U.S. Cabinet department. For LGBTQ+ people, especially LGBTQ+ youth, the importance of this kind of inclusion and visibility cannot be overstated. As evidenced in his hearing, Mayor Buttigieg comes prepared with the skills and plans to help our cities, suburbs, and rural communities build back better by rebuilding critical infrastructure, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life for all people living in the United States.

ACTION: Call or email your two Senators IMMEDIATELY and tell them to swiftly vote YES to confirm Mayor Buttigieg as the Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation.

Use the following PFLAG message, or create your own:

As a member of PFLAG residing in [your city], I urge you to vote yes to confirm Mayor Peter Buttigieg as Secretary of The United States Department of Transportation. It was wonderful to see the bipartisan he received in the Senate Commerce Committee.

Mayor Buttigieg is a problem-solver and creative leader who is qualified to help all communities--rural, urban, and suburban--rebuild, strengthen, and sustain the critical infrastructure our country needs to get and stay connected.

Mayor Buttigieg is clearly qualified, and his confirmation would be a historic moment for our nation. This kind of visibility and inclusion is critical for LGBTQ+ young people, whose health and wellbeing are helped when they see role models living lives to which they can aspire.

Thank you for voting yes to confirm Mayor Buttigieg.

Thank you for taking action on this important nomination!
