Did you see KC's message, John?
Yesterday, President Joe Biden rolled out a suite of actions to combat the climate crisis — pausing new oil and gas leases on public lands and offshore waters, directing federal agencies to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies, establishing a National Climate Task Force, and more.
We're celebrating the announcement of these major and critical steps. Be we also need to make sure the federal government is using every tool and resource at its disposal to tackle the climate crisis.

John,
Within his first week in office, President Joe Biden has taken major steps to tackle the climate crisis – from rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, to revoking the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, to beginning to reverse many of Trump's environmental rollbacks.
But there's an additional tool President Biden could use to tackle this crisis head-on: Declaring a climate emergency.

By declaring a climate emergency, the Biden administration would unlock executive powers to allow America to act boldly in the face of this crisis.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer endorsed this strategy this week, saying "if there ever was an emergency, climate is one."
Declaring a climate emergency wouldn't be the end of America's actions, and we still need comprehensive legislation to respond to the climate crisis. But it would be a critical step forward to build clean energy projects and create millions of jobs.
Trump used his emergency powers to try and build his racist border wall. President Biden has the opportunity to act to combat the real emergency our world faces from a rapidly changing climate.
As I said almost a year ago on the Capitol Steps in Salem, we have pushed our planet to its limit. What we face as Oregonians, as Americans, and as global citizens is a crisis that is extraordinarily worse than any war the world has seen.
