The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) is delighted to announce that Pam Hrick has accepted the position of Executive Director and General Counsel for the organization.

Ms. Hrick joins LEAF from Stockwoods LLP, where she practiced law for the past several years. Ms. Hrick previously clerked for the Hon. Justice Thomas A. Cromwell at the Supreme Court of Canada and the Hon. Justice David Stratas at the Federal Court of Appeal. Before commencing her legal career, Ms. Hrick also served as the Legislative Advisor and Issues Manager to the Attorney General of Ontario. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Ottawa, her JD from Queen’s University, and her LLM from New York University.

“LEAF’s work aligns with my passion for advancing an intersectional approach to gender equity and women’s rights in society. I am thrilled to be joining LEAF at this critical time for our country,” said Ms. Hrick. “LEAF’s role in supporting and protecting the rights of women, girls and gender-diverse people is particularly important at this moment as the COVID-19 pandemic has both highlighted and exacerbated the vulnerability of many women.”

Earlier this year, LEAF also welcomed Brea Hutchinson as its inaugural Director of Operations for the organization. Ms. Hutchinson joins LEAF after holding the position of Executive Director at the Sexual Assault Centre of Kingston. The Director of Operations role will be instrumental in working with the Executive Director and General Counsel to deliver on LEAF’s newly adopted strategic plan.

“These new hires are essential in building LEAF’s capacity as we continue to evolve and grow,” Gillian Hnatiw, Chair of LEAF, said. “I am looking forward to working closely with both Pam and Brea as we move forward with LEAF’s next chapter. It is truly an exciting time for LEAF as we build on our 36-year legacy and continue to work toward realizing our vision of substantive equality in Canada.”

LEAF would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Megan Stephens, the outgoing Executive Director and General Counsel, for her contributions. Ms. Hrick will be joining LEAF full-time on February 22. Ms. Stephens will be working closely with Ms. Hrick to support a smooth transition.

Le Fonds d’action et d’éducation juridique pour les femmes (FAEJ) est ravi d’annoncer que Pam Hrick a accepté le poste de directrice exécutive et avocate générale de l’organisation.

Me Hrick s’est jointe au FAEJ du cabinet Stockwoods s.r.l., où elle a pratiqué le droit au cours des dernières années. Me Hrick a auparavant été assistante stagiaire de l’honorable Thomas A. Cromwell, juge à la Cour suprême du Canada et de l’honorable David Stratas, juge à la Cour d’appel fédérale. Avant d’amorcer sa carrière juridique, Me Hrick a également agi à titre de conseillère juridique et de gestionnaire des enjeux pour le Procureur général de l’Ontario. Elle a obtenu son diplôme de premier cycle de l’Université d’Ottawa, son J.D. de l’Université Queen’s et sa LL.M. de l’Université de New York.

« Les travaux du FAEJ s’harmonisent avec ma passion pour la promotion d’une approche intersectionnelle à l’équité des genres et les droits des femmes dans la société. Je suis ravie de me joindre au FAEJ durant cette période critique pour notre pays, a déclaré Me Hrick. Le rôle du FAEJ pour appuyer et protéger les droits des femmes, des filles et des personnes de diverses identités de genre est particulièrement important en ce moment, car la pandémie de COVID-19 a souligné et aggravé la vulnérabilité d’un grand nombre de femmes. »

Au début de l’année, le FAEJ a aussi accueilli Brea Hutchinson comme directrice inaugurale des opérations pour l’organisation. Mme Hutchinson se joint au FAEJ après avoir occupé le poste de directrice exécutive du Centre d’aide aux victimes d’agression sexuelle de Kingston. La directrice des opérations et la directrice exécutive et avocate générale joueront un rôle déterminant dans la réalisation du nouveau plan stratégique du FAEJ.

« Ces nouvelles embauches sont essentielles au renforcement de la capacité du FAEJ alors que nous continuons d’évoluer et de croître, déclare Gillian Hnatiw, présidente du FAEJ. Je me réjouis à la perspective de collaborer étroitement avec Pam et Brea alors que nous passons au chapitre suivant du FAEJ. C’est vraiment une période passionnante pour le FAEJ alors que nous ajoutons à nos antécédents des 36 dernières années et poursuivons nos travaux en vue de réaliser notre vision d’égalité réelle au Canada. »

Le FAEJ souhaite profiter de l’occasion pour remercier encore Megan Stephens, la directrice exécutive et avocate générale sortante, pour ses contributions. Me Hrick se joindra au FAEJ à temps plein le 22 février. Me Stephens collaborera de près avec elle pour appuyer une transition harmonieuse.
