Hey Swing Left,

You might be feeling it too—the past couple days have felt a little like whiplash to me. Since the House announced their impeachment inquiry into Trump, we’ve heard a lot of back and forth about whether it’ll galvanize Trump’s base and what it means for his chances of re-election.

What we haven't been hearing much about is how people on the left, like us, are motivated by the news, too. So we asked!

Over 5,000 of you responded to our pulse survey so far, and the results are overwhelming: 91% either support or strongly support the House’s decision to start an impeachment inquiry. And 68% said you’re even more motivated to take action to support Democratic candidates in 2020.

That’s inspiring, and exactly what we need to hear. Nobody yet knows how impeachment will affect next year's elections. But, we do know that transforming our government is not only about beating Trump—it’s also about winning the elections that matter most, from the White House to key state houses.

Some other things we learned from yesterday’s survey:

• Half of you think that impeaching Trump will help Democrats win in 2020. And 48% feel it makes next year’s elections even more important.
• 55% of you believe that Trump will be impeached by the House, but that it’ll die in the Senate. This only reinforces why we need to flip the Senate—and get rid of Mitch McConnell—to advance progressive policies and save our democracy.

You said it loud and clear: you’re thrilled that the Democratic majority in the House (that you worked so hard to elect!) is formally investigating Trump’s behavior to hold him accountable. AND you’re committed to doing everything you can to beat the GOP in 2020.

So here are two things you can do right now:

Donate to support the House Democrats who support the impeachment inquiry. We need to defend our majority in the House, and 36 Congress members you helped elect are risking their chance at re-election to do what they think is right. Let’s show them we have their backs.

Ask a friend or family member to join Swing Left, and volunteer or donate to help our eventual Democratic nominees. They are going to need all the support we can give them.

You’re fired up, so let’s double down on the work it’ll take to make real, systemic change in our country.
