Updates from GLAAD

The nominations for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards are here!

Exciting news: Earlier today, actress Josie Totah (Peacock’s Saved By The Bell), actor and performer D.J. 'Shangela' Pierce (HBO’s We’re Here), and actor Jonathan Bennett (The Hallmark Channel’s The Christmas House) announced the nominees for the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards via livestream on GLAAD’s TikTok page.

This year, there are 198 nominees across 28 categories, including two new categories: Outstanding Children’s Programming and Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist. As LGBTQ representation continues to grow in Kids & Family programming, the new Outstanding Children’s Programming category recognizes television programs created for younger children that showcase LGBTQ people and families. The new Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist recognizes LGBTQ artists who have achieved a breakthrough in the music industry during the eligibility period and whose songs, music videos, or live performances have made a significant impact on LGBTQ visibility and acceptance.

This year, several categories increased from five to ten worthy nominees to recognize expanding levels of diverse LGBTQ representation across several media genres. You can find a full list of the nominees here.

Among this year’s nominees include Schitt’s Creek, Saved by the Bell, Disclosure, Veneno, The Prom, Happiest Season, The Boys in the Band, The Half of It, I May Destroy You, Love, Victor, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, Peppermint, Twenties, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Star Trek: Discovery, Deaf U, We’re Here, and many more.

The GLAAD Media Awards have become one of the most prestigious events of the awards season, and this year’s list of diverse nominees reflect the impact of LGBTQ representation in the media. From news, to Hollywood, to Spanish-language, to video games, our nominees raise the bar for LGBTQ inclusion and encourage creators to continue producing more LGBTQ-inclusive content, while driving their competitors to do the same. A GLAAD Media Award nomination can also have a major impact on making the process easier for reporters and content creators to produce LGBTQ-inclusive media projects in the future.

Award recipients will be announced during a virtual ceremony scheduled for April 2021. For more information about the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, please visit glaad.org/mediaawards.
