Mike's position is based on the data. Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on multiple studies showing that schools could safely reopen without a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

So, while the risks of COVID infection are low, the risks to children who are falling behind outside the classroom are substantial. Once again, the data paints a clear picture: drops in learning achievement and an increase in mental-health afflictions among students.
