Friend,
Did you know that since last summer, approximately 8 million more Americans have fallen into poverty?
And, in my district―the third poorest in the country―my residents can’t wait for change. We need immediate assistance to combat poverty and address our pandemic-related crises.
That’s why, over the next two weeks, we’re raising money to provide 600 Detroit-area households with bags of nonperishable food items, in conjunction with local leaders and faith-based institutions.
Your donation today to my Rooted in Community PAC will go directly to supporting people and families in need this winter. We have a goal of raising $10,000 over the next two weeks. Can you pitch in today?
Together, we’re showing up for our communities and those most in need.
Thank you,
Rashida

Friend,
As a member of Congress, I view every dollar our government spends through a moral lens. That’s why I have continuously voted against the nearly $1 trillion annual U.S. military budget―money that should be used to invest in our communities, not endless wars and weapons of mass destruction.
This week in Detroit, our country’s largest majority-Black city, a majority of the City Council voted to spend $200,000 attacking the constitutional rights of Black Lives Matter protesters—against overwhelming public opposition. Instead of using Detroit taxpayer dollars to invest in the critical needs of our communities, the City Council is funding an outrageous counter-lawsuit against Detroit Will Breathe activists.
Whether it’s through the bills and legislation that I introduce in partnership with community members, or our four neighborhood service centers, which have returned $2.4 million back to residents of one of the poorest districts in the country, I am fighting for transformative change that lifts people up, TODAY.
That’s why, over the next two weeks, my leadership PAC―the Rooted in Community PAC―is raising money to provide 600 Detroit-area households with bags of nonperishable food items, in conjunction with local leaders and faith-based institutions. We have a goal of raising $10,000 to reach as many households as possible.
Can you make a critical donation of $5 today to help feed families and address poverty in and near Detroit?
Since last summer, approximately 8 million more Americans have fallen into poverty. And, as millions of families go without food, water, and housing in the midst of the pandemic, congressional Republicans continue to oppose the critical assistance that our communities need.
This has disproportionately harmed Black and brown communities like mine, who were already in survival mode before the pandemic.
Last year in the U.S. House, we pushed for $2,000 recurring checks, changing the conversation about what was politically possible. I will continue to fight to get people the money they need to survive. And we did secure funding to protect people’s access to clean water, including $1.5 billion to reconnect people’s water and $23 billion to replace dangerous lead drinking water pipes. But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans blocked that critically needed aid.
This year, we have an incredible opportunity to work with the Biden administration and a Democratic majority in the Senate to bring real aid to our communities. However, while those bills work their way through Congress, people are struggling right now through the winter months in the midst of a health and economic crisis. Especially in my district, the third poorest in the country.
Please, donate what you can today to feed hundreds of households in need.

Our communities can’t wait another moment for change. That’s why we’re showing up for people now while also fighting for a government that actually works for the people. We’re in this together.
Thank you,
Rashida
