I wanted to update you on everything that’s happened this week.
As you may know, we recently learned more troubling facts about the president’s abuse of power. A rough transcript released by the White House shows that the president invited foreign interference into our elections – the very basis of our democracy – for his own political gain.
No one is above the law – not even the president. That’s why, after careful deliberation, I’m supporting an impeachment inquiry.
I want you to know that I do not make this decision lightly – I listened carefully to Kansans who reached out to me about this matter, in addition to evaluating the evidence we have already been presented with.
But these allegations leave the House with no other option than to begin an impeachment inquiry. We must proceed down a path of finding the truth, regardless of politics.
Let me be clear: Congress being compelled to open an impeachment inquiry is nothing to celebrate. This is a sad moment for our country, but it is the right thing to do.
Thank you for standing with us as we work to learn the truth and hold this administration accountable.
