ABORTION BILL PASSES IN HOUSE COMMITTEE

Legislation that would repeal New Mexico’s 1969 law that outlaws abortion cleared a House committee today.  The House Health & Human Services Committee passed HB 7 by a vote of 8 to 3. This bill would allow late-term abortions and infanticide and would provide no protections for women and health care officials.

The bill now heads to the
House Judiciary Committee.

CALL TO ACTION: Contact members of the House Judiciary Committee, and tell them to vote NO on this bill. The Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee are Gail Chasey,
[email protected] (505) 986-4411 and  Micaela Lara Cadena, [email protected] (505) 986-4210. Tell them this bill is wrong for New Mexico.

PANDEMIC RELIEF BILL CLEARS SENATE COMMITTEE

The Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee has passed a bill that’s part of a major pandemic relief package. SB1 would provide a $600 tax rebate for people who earn less than $31,000. The legislation would also give bars, businesses and other establishments impacted by the pandemic a one-time gross receipts tax break from March to June. This would cost $185 million. And again, Democrats are dipping into reserves to fund this.
