Former South Carolina Senate candidate Jaime Harrison elected DNC chair

The Democratic National Committee elected Jaime Harrison of South Carolina as its new chair on Thursday. Harrison was President Biden's pick to lead the Democratic Party.
Harrison, 44, previously served as chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and was a senior DNC official. He is close to House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, another South Carolina Democrat, for whom he once worked. Mr. Biden's flagging fortunes in the Democratic primary turned around after he secured Clyburn's endorsement, helping him to a landslide win in the South Carolina primary.
In his remarks to Democratic leaders, Harrison thanked outgoing DNC Chair Tom Perez and other party officials. He pledged to keep the momentum up.

Per the Colorado Democratic Party Rules & Bylaws, county parties are required to meet in odd-numbered years to elect/re-elect officers. This process is known as “re-organization” (or re-org for short)!

Sen. Michael Bennet’s ‘Health Force’ bill taps unemployed to deliver medical services

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, alongside 10 other Democratic colleagues in the Senate, has introduced a “Health Force” bill aimed at helping to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
The legislation, called The Health Force, Resilience Force, Jobs to Fight COVID-19 Act, would tap those who are unemployed, train them with “basic public health skills” and employ them in their own communities to bolster communities’ response to the coronavirus pandemic. It would specifically aim to recruit people from lower income, minority and marginalized communities.

U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper is finding himself in a familiar role in Washington. The Democrat is one of 16 senators in an evenly split bipartisan coalition working with President Joe Biden’s team to craft the next COVID-19 relief bill.
The cohort met for the first time Sunday with the new administration, and Hickenlooper said both parties found agreement on prioritizing vaccine distribution and economic support for those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), the infamous author of the New York Times op-ed calling for troops to break up Black Lives Matter protests, has lied about details of his military service, according to an investigation by Salon’s Roger Sollenberger.

But of course, any actual member of the 75th Ranger Regiment would be more of a Ranger than Tom Cotton will ever be. For example, former U.S. Army Ranger Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) who tweeted a selfie in the iconic Ranger beret Saturday after the story broke: “Hey @SenTomCotton, unless you wore one of these berets you shouldn’t be calling yourself a Ranger. Truth matters.”
