President Biden just announced that he will call on Congress to eliminate all federal subsidies for fossil fuels: 

This is a huge victory. Let me just say, on a scale from 1 to 10, I would mark it as 9. More importantly, it’s a victory that was only possible because our movement pushed President Biden to put climate action at the top of his agenda.

We’re able to do this work because we have a movement made up of people like you — people who are committed to the hard work needed to end the era of fossil fuels.

In November, we released the 10 executive actions Biden must sign on day one in office and ending federal fossil fuel subsidies was on the list. 

Our movement generated the momentum behind this win, but that’s not the only victory from Biden’s Climate Day.

In addition to ending fossil fuel subsidies at the federal level, President Biden announced a temporary halt on new oil and gas leases on federal lands and restoring science-based decision making in federal agencies. 

With these executive actions, President Biden is making it clear that climate is a top priority.

Executive orders are an important step to protecting our communities, lands, and waters, halting corporate pollution and giveaways to fossil fuel CEOs, making strides towards environmental justice, and jump-starting a clean energy economy. 

Now, we must continue pushing President Biden to #StopLine3 and build back fossil free.
