an Emergency COLA Increase Now!

Does this year’s 1.3% Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) cover seniors’ rising housing, utility and out-of-pocket health care costs? Many older Americans have told the National Committee the answer is NO! That’s because the extra $20 more in Social Security benefits each month for the average beneficiary is barely enough to cover one prescription co-pay or half a bag of groceries.
That’s why we are working to help reintroduce and pass U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio’s (OR-04) emergency bill, the “Emergency Social Security COLA for 2021 Act,” that would give Social Security beneficiaries a 3% COLA this year.
You can help us pass this important bill in the new Congress by signing our urgent Petition today! Your petition will put pressure on U.S. Representatives to act without delay to protect the financial security of millions of older Americans.
This important bill would be a critical first step in fixing the current COLA formula which is woefully inadequate for calculating the true impact of inflation on seniors’ wallets. It especially under-represents the rising costs that retirees pay for expenses like health care, prescription drugs, food and housing.
The health and financial security of millions of Americans depends on getting a fair and accurate COLA this year and every year. Bottom line: We need to tell U.S. Representatives that seniors deserve an immediate COLA raise and relief on their wallets! So please help us get the “Emergency Social Security COLA for 2021 Act” over the legislative finish line by signing our Urgent Petition to Congress today!
