Folks -- today President Biden joined California in the fight against climate change and took bold, historic action.

The President signed executive actions to suspend new leases for natural gas and oil development on federal lands and waters, create a commission focused on green jobs and environmental justice, and followed California’s lead to conserve 30% of federal lands and waters by 2030.

These are the kind of bold policies we need to fight climate change -- anything less won’t be enough to save our planet from the disastrous effects we’re already experiencing.

California has long led the nation in climate action. As I’ve said many times -- if anyone still needs convincing that climate change is real, they should come to California. We’ve weathered unprecedented wildfires and extreme weather, and have taken important steps to mitigate this existential threat.

Today the rest of the nation joins California in that fight -- to preserve our land, air, and water for generations to come, to save our environment from collapse.

We have a lot more work to do. Climate change deniers remain in elected positions throughout the country, and we’ll face opposition as we continue to take the bold steps necessary to address this crisis. So I need to know if you’re with me and ready to get to work.
