John,

Joe Biden signed 17 executive orders on his first day in office. One of them reinforced Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, requiring that the federal government not to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

If you think that establishing this basic protection for the LGBTQ+ community is long overdue, you're not alone. The reason Biden even had to clarify this at all? The actions of the Trump administration.

During his time in the Oval Office, Trump and his team asserted time and time again that federal civil rights laws did not extend to LGBTQ+ citizens. They filed multiple court briefs asserting that discrimination was legal in the workplace, in health care, and even in homeless shelters.

We're glad that Biden made such a strong statement on Day 1. But we can't rest on our laurels. Our nation's courts are still packed with Trump loyalists, and the discriminatory legacy that he left behind will persist for years unless we act.

We need to send a clear message that Biden's executive order is the bare minimum for LGBTQ+ equality. We need to ensure that this is the baseline for even more representation and even greater change. Please, donate now to stand with us in this mission. Your support is why we're able to continue in this fight. >> [link removed]
