It’s January, and we hoped for a peaceful start to our year, but not so. 2021 has already given us a rollercoaster ride with an insurrection, an impeachment, and an inauguration. And all of this comes on the coattails of a challenging 2020.

We watched murders of Black people at the hands of police added to a long list of victims of state violence. This election year presented new voter suppression tactics that sought to force voters to choose between their health and voting. Advancement Project National Office staff had to adapt quickly to our new circumstances and to respond to the pandemic—both seeking to free people from jails where COVID was rampantly spreading and to ensure protections for voters. We supported racial justice protesters from around the country connecting them to media and influencers. And our Police-Free Schools work took off, as we elevated the misuse of law enforcement in our schools and won campaigns.

As we continue to fight, we also recognize the toll these last few months has had on us and others, and so we want to provide another type of support. Next month, we’re bringing everyone together, including organizers and activists, for a workshop on how we can center healing in our movement and learn how to cultivate more space for rest.

Join us on Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. ET for a racial healing workshop, Black Resilience in the Time of Bullsh*t , featuring Adaku Utah of Harriet’s Apothecary [[link removed]] .

With all that has happened, I learned that nothing can stop a group of people committed to freedom and justice, especially if we center our own healing in this fight.

In solidarity,
