John,

This week I witnessed another horrible act of police brutality and this
one was harrowing because one of my oldest childhood friends, Christopher
Lynch, was the victim.

In Gold Rock, North Carolina on a dark country road with no lights, North
Carolina State Highway Patrol officer L.M. Caskey pulled up behind
Christopher and flashed his lights. Instead of stopping on the dark road
because he was fearful of what could happen, Christopher pulled up to a
nearby gas station and immediately turned his car off, and put his hands
on the steering wheel.

The officer then pulled Christopher out of the car and proceeded to beat
him. Pushing Christopher’s face into the concrete, the officer kneeled on
his back and neck and even had a white supremacist civilian join in on the
beating.

Thankfully Christopher was not murdered but it shouldn’t take someone’s
life being taken aways for us to be angry.

What transpired was absolutely disgusting and it put on full display the
acts of white supremacy and the system of criminal injustice that Black
people have to try to survive.

You don’t have to know Christopher like I do to understand that this act
of police brutality must be investigated.

Cops like L.M. Caskey think that they can get away with this because they
always have. We cannot sit by and wait to watch yet another act of white
supremacy terrorism.

America has a dark history of white supremacy terrorism that continues to
this day. If we stand together and push for a swift investigation, we can
begin to fight back against a system that so callously ignores Black
bodies.

We cannot hem and haw over this, an investigation into what took place
must happen immediately.

Thank you for taking the time to call for a swift investigation into this
horrible act of police brutality, my friend Christopher and I are truly
grateful.
