John,
Last week, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were inaugurated as our country’s new president and vice president. This moment brings with it new opportunities and the chance to tackle some of our biggest challenges. And there are plenty of issues to address.
President Biden and Vice President Harris have listed coronavirus, systemic racism, the economy, and climate change as top priorities. These are critical issues that must be dealt with urgently, but we here at Issue One believe that there’s another issue the administration should also tackle ASAP: democracy reform.
American democracy is in crisis. Congress is gridlocked. Special interests are running Washington. Dark money is flooding our elections. Politicians are picking their voters through gerrymandered districts. Our politics are polarized, and we can’t get anything done. We need big change so everyone’s voice can be heard.
Tell the new administration you want them to make democracy reform one of their top priorities!
While there’s no simple fix for our democracy, there are lots of things we can do, like bolstering election administration, making Congress a more effective institution, reducing the corrosive influence of big money in our politics, and strengthening executive branch and congressional ethics laws — just to name a few.
These game-changing reforms will help create an inclusive democracy that works for all Americans.
Add your name to tell President Biden and Vice President Harris to make democracy reform one of their top priorities.
Onward,
Nick Penniman Founder & CEO, Issue One
