John —
You know as well as I do how severe Downriver’s train problem is. We have major crossing issues in Huron, Trenton, and Woodhaven because we are home to many manufacturing industries that use our rail lines. In particular, Woodhaven’s rail crossings have been a decades-long problem, blocking traffic and obstructing emergency services for hours at a time as trains move across the tracks.
Since taking office, I’ve done everything I can to raise this issue in Lansing, and this is an important step toward ensuring greater access to region’s only Trauma II hospital and greatly improving the commutes and lives of Downriver residents.
Our work isn’t done, though: we still need to secure more funding to make this project a reality, but I can promise you I’ll roll up my sleeves and do everything I can to get this project completed for all of us Downriver.
We’re also going to work to create a long-term fund to help build more bridges over our most critical blocked crossings.
Thank you for raising your voice on this issue. Some in Lansing are finally listening to us.
P.S. >>> Check out the story from Channel 7 on our work!
