John,

You should have received an update about the School Aid budget from me just recently. Well, I'm back with another update: Tuesday afternoon, the legislature voted on and passed the remaining budget bills.

If you missed my last email, here's the quick and dirty: I voted no on the School Aid budget because I am unwilling to simply accept the budgetary equivalent of leftovers to fund the education of our future leaders. While schools may be receiving a few more crumbs than they did last year, when compared to how much is still needed, it still amounts to crumbs.

Tuesday we made it through the remaining budget bills. The Republican majority went on vacation and forced our school districts to start their year not knowing how much money they even had to educate their students. When Republicans finally got back to work, they offered the same thing they did through years of the Snyder administration: crumbs.

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of crumbs. I'm ready to come to the table with Governor Whitmer and take bold, necessary votes to set our state back on the pathway to success.

Tuesday, like every day, I was reminded of the importance of taking back OUR House next November. Will you stand with me and donate $15, $25 or $50 today to elect leaders who are ready to vote on a better budget for a better Michigan?

"I recommend my colleagues vote no on this budget, because it is the status quo of an insurance system that we all agreed was unacceptable."

Just this spring we voted Auto No-Fault reform into law, and Tuesday the Republican majority turned around and undercut those reforms. Their budget lacks the consumer protection and education that we need to implement the new law to its fullest extent and to lower rates for all. That is why I voted no, and why I spoke on the House floor urging my colleagues to do the same.

I am tired of the Republican majority voting one way when it's convenient and turning their backs as soon as they think people aren't watching. I'm asking you to contribute $15, $25 or $50 today if you're ready to send some real leadership to Lansing in 2020.

Next, these budget bills will go to the Governor's desk. I'm sure I'll be back with another update soon!

In solidarity,

Donna

P.S. It might seem like a long way away, but every dollar raised today gets us one step closer to a budget that supports quality schools, clean water, and affordable auto insurance for all Michiganders. We need your support to make it happen.
