Hi John,

The Center for American Progress is out with its latest report on the state of women's leadership -- and we wanted to let you know about the progress we made in 2020 and where we're focusing this year and looking to 2022.

In addition to Vice President Kamala Harris' historic ascension to become the highest-ranking woman in American history, women smashed barriers in Congress. A record-breaking 142 women are serving in our national legislature this year -- up from 127 in 2019 -- and that includes 51 women of color, the most ever to hold seats.

We are particularly proud of the results in New Mexico, which became the first state to elect a House delegation composed entirely of women of color. And we're thrilled to see Cori Bush become the first woman of color to represent Missouri in Congress.

Nevertheless, we still have a ways to go. The number of women serving in the Senate has decreased and now stands at under a quarter of the entire body. And as of this year, just 58 women and 5 women of color have ever served in the upper house.

John, we won't be content until the disparities that keep women from elected office in this country are gone for good. That's why we're working to elevate women in our political leadership throughout all levels of government and bring progressive issues to the forefront of our legislative agenda. But unfortunately, we're falling short of the funds we need to keep our critical efforts running.

We know that with a conservative 6-3 majority in the Supreme Court and a growing far-right base, our work has never been more critical. And with candidates across the country already taking crucial steps to begin the 2022 midterm elections, we don't have a single second to waste.

Please, if you care about creating a future where women will regularly hold our nation's highest offices, if you want to see a Senate with more women, not fewer, if you want to see progressive legislation make it past GOP interference in Congress, then rush us anything you're able to right now to ensure women can succeed in our political system. >> [link removed]

We so appreciate everything you have done to get us up to this historic point. And we're thrilled you'll be on board with us as we continue to fight for equal representation in every level of our government.
