This is an issue of fairness.

John, I’m proud to reintroduce legislation -- which I’ve been fighting for since 2013 -- that would make Washington, D.C. our country’s 51st state.

Do you think D.C. should be the 51st state of the United States?

YES >>             NO >>

Recently, we’ve seen painful examples of why this initiative is more important than ever:

First, over the summer, former President Trump unilaterally deployed U.S. military and federal law enforcement personnel against Americans in D.C. peacefully practicing their constitutional right to protest against systemic racism and long-running injustices in our country.

Then, earlier this very month, we saw violent domestic terrorists strom the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn our free and fair election and undermine our democratic principles as a country. It was an attack that left all of us reeling -- especially the more than 700,000 Americans who call D.C. home.

By making D.C. a state, Washingtonians would finally have full voting representation in Congress, and D.C. officials would have full control over local affairs, including their city’s security in the wake of public safety crises -- including the kind the District faced earlier this month.

This is an issue of fairness -- treating others the way we want to be treated -- and I want to hear your thoughts. Take our poll and tell me whether you support D.C. statehood >>

I look forward to hearing from you,

TC
