On the eve of his inauguration, President Joe Biden paid tribute to the 400,000 Americans who’ve died of COVID-19 -- and on his first day in office, President Biden unveiled a robust and evidence-backed national strategy to prevent countless more American deaths due to failed leadership.
Throughout the campaign and now, in the first week of his presidency, President Biden has prioritized the health and safety of our families, small businesses, first responders, and caregivers with his plan to combat the dual public health and economic crises we’re facing. And, unlike his predecessor, he’s leading with transparency: his 200-page long National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness is a roadmap for all Americans, organized around seven goals:
1. Restore trust with the American people
2. Mount a safe, effective, and comprehensive vaccination campaign
3. Mitigate spread through expanding masking, testing, data, treatments, health care workforce, and clear public health standards
4. Immediately expand emergency relief and exercise the Defense Production Act
5. Safely reopen schools, businesses, and travel while protecting workers
6. Protect those most at risk and advance equity, including across racial, ethnic, and rural/urban lines
7. Restore U.S. leadership globally and build better preparedness for future threats.
President Biden and his administration understand the challenges we're up against, and they know that progress won’t come easy. But our families deserve a bold, honest response to this pandemic that’s driven by science, data, and public health -- not politics. Together, guided by a common purpose and by the memory of those we’ve lost, we can beat COVID-19, and I’m proud to stand with the Biden administration in this fight.
