In 2018, the country learned that children were being intentionally ripped from their families under a cruel immigration practice by Trump known as family separation.

The ACLU was there from the onset, filing a national class-action lawsuit in Ms. L vs. ICE that successfully blocked the policy and reunited thousands of families.

But the fact is, families remain separated even now. Our report from only a few months ago shows that the parents of at least 611 children have not even been found – and the irreparable damage inflicted upon all impacted families will remain for decades to come.

That's why the work to undo this damage must be an urgent priority for the Biden administration, and its promise of a new task force is just the start. We've laid out 5 specific actions for the Biden administration to commit to in its first 100 days – and we need your help. Sign our petition today telling the Biden administration to:

* Find the missing parents, reunite all the families, and ensure they can live in the United States together, free from detention and deportation

* Provide immediate protections from deportation and support a pathway to citizenship for all separated families

* Provide resources and redress funds that include coverage of trauma-informed mental health services

* Make systemic changes to end family separations for good

* Pursue investigations of and accountability for those responsible

Every child separated from their family has a unique and painful story. Stories like that from one of the first families we reunited, when a mother told us that her 4-year-old son kept asking if they were going to take him away again. Or another mother who was forced to watch as agents drove away with her 18-month-old baby. Each of these families deserves citizenship, resources, care, and a commitment that family separation will never happen again.

P.S. President Biden has pledged to create a task force to reunify separated families, which will likely be officially established this week. The ACLU welcomes all assistance in finding the still-missing families, but the administration and its new task force will need to do more to fully address this tragedy.
